Job Title: Director

Job Description:
The Director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day management of the Alabama Veterans Museum & Archives. This includes oversight of museum operations, collections, educational programming, community engagement, and the management of the museum’s rental venue.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Administration
• Provide visionary leadership and strategic planning for the museum’s growth and sustainability.
• Oversee all staff, volunteers, and contractors, ensuring effective team management and professional development.
• Develop and manage the annual budget, including preparation of funding requests and financial reports for the Board of Directors and funding agencies.
• Oversee the museums store (gift shop) operations ensuring profitability. Manage the stores’ merchandise, coordinate vender accounts, develop purchasing plans and maintain store displays.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as best practices.
2. Collections & Exhibitions
• Oversee the acquisition, care, documentation, and interpretation of the museum’s collections.
• Develop and implement engaging exhibitions and educational programs that fulfill the museum’s mission.
3. Community Engagement & Public Relations
• Serve as the primary spokesperson for the museum, fostering relationships with veterans, donors, community organizations, and the public.
• Manage the museums’ online presence, to include social media content creation and audience engagement
• Lead fundraising initiatives, grant writing, and donor stewardship.
4. Rental Venue Management
• Oversee the scheduling, promotion, and management of the museum’s rental venue for events such as meetings, weddings, and community gatherings.
• Develop and enforce rental policies, contracts, and pricing structures.
• Coordinate with clients to ensure successful event execution, including facility setup, staffing, and compliance with museum guidelines.
• Track rental income and expenses, providing regular reports to the Board.
5. Board Relations
• Work closely with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates and supporting board governance and development.
• All other duties assigned by the Board.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, history, public administration, or related field. (Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree.)
• Prior Military knowledge and experience. (Veterans Preference)
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience with fundraising, grant writing, cultivating donors and community engagement.
• Understanding of budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation
• Excellent leadership and organizational abilities
• Superb communication and public speaking skills
• Computer experience to include using Microsoft Office
• Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule to include some holidays and weekends.

• Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check
